Lord of Mysteries plot recap, spoiler-light
The story is set in a late Victorian world resembling England during the year 1349 of the Fifth Epoch. Zhou Mingrui, a youth from China, suddenly wakes up inside the body of a university graduate named Klein Moretti. Faced with this strange displacement, Klein tries to uncover the reasons behind the suicide of the original Klein while simultaneously searching for a way back to his home.
This perilous new environment is filled with dreadnoughts, steam technology, and occult horrors, where individuals wielding mystical abilities are known as Beyonders. Trying to navigate this dangerous landscape, Klein reproduces a mystical ritual that seemingly caused his transience. Through this, he projects a god-like persona and establishes a mysterious organization called the Tarot Club.
Eventually, Klein aligns himself with the authorities by becoming an official Beyonder connected to one of the Seven Orthodox Churches. He balances his secret identity with the dangerous reality of warring Churches and occult threats, walking a fine line between light and darkness as unspeakable dangers surround him.
