Dagashi Kashi plot recap, spoiler-light
Shikada Kokonotsu lives in a quiet rural area where his father, Yō, runs Shikada Dagashi, a small shop specializing in cheap snacks and candies that has been operated by their family for nine generations. Yō desperately wants Kokonotsu to inherit the establishment and take over ownership one day, but Kokonotsu has entirely different ambitions, aiming instead to become a professional manga artist. Their daily routine of running the store and debating future plans is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of a peculiar and eccentric girl named Hotaru Shidare.
Hotaru hails from a immensely famous family that runs a massive sweets manufacturing enterprise, the Shidare Corporation. She has traveled specifically to recruit Yō into her father's company because of his renowned talent in the industry. However, Yō poses a stubborn condition for his employment, telling Hotaru that he will only agree to join her corporation if she can successfully convince Kokonotsu to take ownership of the family candy shop. This sets up a humorous ongoing conflict where Hotaru repeatedly visits the store to pitch various treats to Kokonotsu.
