Insomniacs After School plot recap, spoiler-light
Ganta Nakami is a gloomy high school student living in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, who suffers from severe insomnia and frequent headaches, leading his classmates to avoid him. While seeking a quiet place to rest, he discovers an abandoned rooftop observatory that has been turned into a storage room. There, he meets Isaki Magari, a cheerful female classmate who deals with the exact same sleep disorder.
The two form a unique bond centered on their shared secret and begin using the observatory to catch up on missed sleep. Hoping to officially secure the room by reviving the disbanded astronomy club, Ganta organizes a stargazing event and steps out of his comfort zone to ask his peers for help. Unfortunately, heavy rain ruins the event, leaving Ganta devastated and blaming himself.
Isaki comforts him, eventually revealing that she suffers from a serious heart defect. Undeterred, the pair shift their focus to winning an astrophotography contest to gain official approval for their club, setting the stage for a crucial photography trip.
