Josee, the Tiger and the Fish plot recap, spoiler-light
Tsuneo Suzukawa is a university student in Osaka working part-time who accidentally meets Josee, a young woman unable to walk, after rescuing her from a runaway wheelchair. Invited inside by her grandmother Chizu, Tsuneo eventually becomes Josee's caretaker. Initially, Josee treats him with harsh demands, but their bond gradually deepens as they share outings, including a memorable trip to the beach.
Josee also secures a library job through her friend Kana Kishimoto, while Tsuneo earns a scholarship opportunity to study abroad in Mexico. However, tragedy strikes when Chizu passes away from a heart attack, leaving Josee to cope on her own. Pressured by circumstances and external remarks suggesting she is holding Tsuneo back, Josee takes an office job instead of pursuing her passion for art. Following a tense argument at the beach, Tsuneo is struck by a car while trying to help Josee, resulting in a severe leg fracture that requires months of hospitalization and threatens his chance to study in Mexico.
