Princess Mononoke plot recap, spoiler-light
In Muromachi-era Japan, the young Emishi prince Ashitaka slays a boar demon that had attacked his home. The battle leaves him with a spreading, fatal curse born of an iron bullet embedded in the beast. Guided by a wandering monk toward the western mountains, Ashitaka searches for a cure and discovers a bitter conflict between forest animal gods and an expanding human settlement called Irontown.
Lady Eboshi leads this iron-mining community, utilizing firearms and clearing the surrounding woodlands. She employs mercenaries, including the monk Jigo, and plots to slay the mysterious Forest Spirit to secure her town's prosperity and an imperial reward. Meanwhile, the forest is fiercely defended by the giant wolf goddess Moro and her human adoptive daughter, San, who is known as Princess Mononoke. Ashitaka strives to mediate between the two factions, attempting to bridge the gap between human progress and nature, but escalating violence draws the entire region into a devastating war involving vengeful boar clans, desperate villagers, and greedy mercenaries.
