Sailor Moon plot recap, spoiler-light
Set in Tokyo during the 1990s, fourteen-year-old underachieving schoolgirl Usagi Tsukino has her ordinary life interrupted by a talking feline named Luna. Luna bestows upon her the mystical capability to transform into the magical warrior Sailor Moon, tasking her with finding a lost moon princess and the legendary Silver Crystal. To accomplish this mission, Usagi gradually gathers a team of fellow planetary defenders awakening to their own powers, which include the brilliant Ami Mizuno as Sailor Mercury, the fierce miko Rei Hino as Sailor Mars, the spirited Makoto Kino as Sailor Jupiter, and the aspiring pop idol Minako Aino as Sailor Venus.
Accompanied by the mysterious Tuxedo Mask—whose secret civilian identity is the college student Mamoru Chiba—the growing group continuously thwarts the wicked Queen Beryl and her Dark Kingdom underlings. These villains dispatch monster creations called Youma to harvest human energy to feed an evil supreme ruler named Queen Metaria. In time, Usagi discovers her true identity as the reincarnated Princess Serenity and unlocks the awesome power of the Silver Crystal. However, the Dark Kingdom captures and brainwashes Mamoru, prompting the group to uncover their tragic ancient past lives on the moon kingdom of Silver Millennium and travel to the North Pole for a final reckoning.
