Troy plot recap, spoiler-light
Set during the late Bronze Age, the narrative begins when Trojan prince Paris convinces Queen Helen of Sparta to leave her husband Menelaus and sail with him to Troy. Seeking retribution and political dominance, Menelaus persuades his powerful brother, King Agamemnon, to unite the Greek kingdoms and launch a massive armada of one thousand ships to conquer the city. Among Agamemnon's forces is Achilles, an unmatched warrior who fights for lasting fame rather than the king's greed.
Following a brutal landing on the Trojan beach, the two armies clash in bloody skirmishes outside the towering walls. Personal vendettas and shifting loyalties complicate the conflict, notably when Achilles withdraws from the fighting over a dispute with Agamemnon regarding the captive priestess Briseis. After a duel between Paris and Menelaus goes awry, Prince Hector steps up to lead the Trojan defense, turning the tide of the war and forcing the Greek forces onto the defensive. A deep bond forms between Achilles and Briseis after he rescues her, leading him to plan an exit from the war until tragedy strikes close to home.
