Barakamon plot recap, spoiler-light
Seishu Handa is a talented and young professional calligrapher who leads a comfortable lifestyle in Tokyo. His life turns upside down when an elderly exhibition curator criticizes his award-winning piece for looking too unoriginal and textbook-like. Unable to handle the harsh critique professionally, Seishu loses his temper and punches the older man.
To punish his actions and force him to reflect on his behavior, Seishu's father exiles him to a rural retreat on Goto Island near Kyushu. Far away from the city, Seishu expects peace and quiet to work on his art. Instead, he finds his daily routine constantly disrupted by the colorful and eccentric local villagers.
Among them is Naru Kotoishi, a hyperactive and energetic local kid who treats Seishu's new home as her personal hangout spot. Alongside fujoshi middle schoolers and energetic old men, these wacky neighbors refuse to mind their own business. Thrown into this chaotic rural setting, the temperamental artist struggles to find any peace, yet these very interactions slowly begin to change his perspective on life and creativity.
