BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense. plot recap, spoiler-light
The narrative begins when Kaede Honjou receives an invitation from her friend Risa Shiramine to join a virtual reality massively multiplayer online game. While Kaede has no inherent aversion to gaming generally, she strongly detests experiencing physical pain of any kind. Upon creating her in-game avatar, whom she names Maple, she makes the radical decision to allocate every single one of her stat points strictly into vitality.
Her primary objective is simply to minimize any potential discomfort she might feel. However, this extreme allocation strategy comes with severe drawbacks. Maple moves at an exceptionally slow pace, is entirely incapable of utilizing magic, and initially struggles so much that even a low-level rabbit opponent manages to get the best of her.
Despite these heavy handicaps, her unorthodox build unexpectedly triggers rare mechanics. She unlocks a coveted ability known as Absolute Defense, alongside a powerful Counter Skill designed specifically to neutralize special attacks. Armed with these extraordinary defensive traits and her newfound capability to completely nullify incoming damage, Maple embarks on her unique virtual adventures.
