Engage Kiss plot recap, spoiler-light
Set within the resource-rich, autonomous artificial island of Bayron City, the narrative unfolds against a backdrop of supernatural unrest caused by entities known as D-Hazards. To manage these threats outside traditional governmental oversight, private military companies are deployed. The protagonist, Shu Ogata, operates a struggling and chronically underfunded agency called I&S Office.
Despite his impoverished lifestyle and poor financial habits, Shu is aided by Kisara, a demon with the appearance of a young girl despite being hundreds of years old who handles both clerical tasks and domestic chores while harboring deep affection for him. Alongside Kisara is Ayano Yugiri, Shu's former coworker at the major PMC AAA Defender Co. and his ex-girlfriend.
Although Ayano insists their romance is over and frequently expresses exasperation at his demands, she continues to provide crucial assistance. Beneath his apparent status as a slacker dependent on these two women, Shu harbors a grim personal mission: he is determined to uncover the truth behind the historic D-Hazard incident in which his parents and sister went missing years prior, driving the overarching conflict forward.
