Land of the Lustrous plot recap, spoiler-light
Set in a far distant future where six meteorites have ravaged the Earth and reduced the remaining land to a single coast, Land of the Lustrous follows immortal humanoids formed from gemstones. These twenty-eight Lustrous beings are led by their master, Kongo, in a relentless fight against the Lunarians, a celestial humanoid race descending from the Moon to harvest the gems for decorations. Phosphophyllite, commonly known as Phos, is a young, brittle gem with one of the lowest hardness ratings, rendering them too fragile to participate in combat and leaving them feeling useless among peers.
Tasked with compiling a natural history encyclopedia, Phos seeks assistance from Cinnabar, an isolated and intelligent gem whose body produces a corrosive poison, forcing them to patrol a lonely island at night. Through this encyclopedic assignment, Phos and Cinnabar forge a connection, inspiring Phos to search for a fulfilling role that can benefit both rejected outcasts.
