In the action comedy Playdate, recently laid-out forensic accountant Brian Jennings hopes to help his bullied stepson Lucas make friends by arranging a playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff Eamon and his unusually strong son CJ. Their afternoon at an indoor playground turns deadly when armed mercenaries ambush them, forcing a desperate escape. Jeff confesses he is a disgraced former Delta Force soldier who previously broke CJ out of a top-secret facility, believing the boy was a captive.
Seeking refuge with Jeff's estranged father Gordon proves useless, underscoring Jeff's lingering abandonment issues. An interrogation of a facility worker reveals that CJ is actually Clone Jeff, the premier successful clone engineered by eccentric billionaire scientist Simon Maddox and Colonel Kurtz. Kurtz wanted to eliminate human empathy from soldiers by harvesting Jeff's DNA to create emotionless, highly efficient fighters. When villains threaten Brian's wife Emily, Brian momentarily turns on the group to trap Jeff, but quickly regains his conscience and joins the rescue mission.
