Record of Ragnarok plot recap, spoiler-light
Every one thousand years, the supreme council of gods gathers to evaluate the state of human civilization across seven million years of history. Following a unanimous consensus that mankind is beyond redemption, the deities decide to bring about the complete eradication of the human race. Before the final decree is formally enacted, Brunhilde, the eldest of the thirteen valkyrie sisters, interrupts the assembly.
She argues that simply wiping out humanity lacks excitement and challenges the deities to put their supreme power to the ultimate test. She proposes Ragnarok, a tournament consisting of one-on-one combat pitting thirteen of history's greatest human champions against thirteen of the mightiest gods. If humanity manages to secure seven victories out of the thirteen scheduled matches, their existence will be spared.
Although the deities initially laugh off the daring proposal, Brunhilde provokes their pride by questioning their courage, successfully goading them into accepting the terms. To bridge the massive power gap, the valkyries agree to participate in Volund, a technique where a sister transforms into a specialized weapon tailored to her human partner's combat style.
