Shelter plot recap, spoiler-light
In the film Shelter, former MI6 Black Kite assassin Michael Mason lives in self-imposed exile on a remote Scottish island. His isolated life changes forever when a violent storm strikes, killing the uncle of a local teenager named Jessie and throwing the girl overboard. Mason manages to rescue Jessie, and the two form a bond while she recovers at his remote home.
Meanwhile, high-ranking MI6 officials deal with political fallout over a controversial surveillance program called THEA. Due to a system error or deliberate manipulation, THEA misidentifies Mason as a dangerous terrorist, triggering a lethal response from the agency. Current leadership dispatches tactical teams to eliminate him, but Mason easily dispatches them using his formidable combat skills.
As the conspiracy unravels, it is revealed that Mason's former handler, Stephen Manafort, manipulated the system to draw Mason out of hiding. Manafort wants Mason silenced because of a past disagreement involving an Iranian nuclear program defector whom Mason refused to assassinate years prior. Realizing that danger is closing in fast, Mason takes Jessie and flees the island to protect her from ruthless operatives sent by his corrupt former masters.
