Steins;Gate 0 plot recap, spoiler-light
In Steins;Gate 0, the self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarou Okabe is a deeply traumatized shell of his former self. Following his failure to rescue Kurisu Makise and lacking any encouraging guidance from his future self or Mayuri Shiina, Okabe chooses to abandon his eccentric persona. He attempts to live as an ordinary college student in the beta world line, distant from the horrors of time travel.
While working at a technology forum, Okabe meets Maho Hiyajo and Professor Alexis Leskinen. The researchers reveal Amadeus, a revolutionary artificial intelligence system capable of storing human memories and replicating a person's exact personality and quirks. Okabe discovers that Maho and Alexis were colleagues of Kurisu and that they have integrated Kurisu's memories into the Amadeus system.
Alexis hires Okabe to research the simulation, allowing the grieving protagonist to converse with a digital shadow of his lost friend. Tangled once again in the echoes of the past, Okabe must confront harsh realities while navigating the perilous consequences of disturbing the natural flow of time.
