UNABOMBER plot recap, spoiler-light
The film UNABOMBER explores the dark transformation of Theodore Kaczynski, beginning with his early years as a brilliant sixteen-year-old mathematics prodigy entering Harvard University in 1958. During his time at the prestigious institution, young Ted is enrolled in aggressive and controversial psychological experiments led by professor Henry Murray and Christiana Morgan. These sessions involve intense interrogations designed to challenge his core beliefs, leaving the young student increasingly detached from his peers and family.
Over time, Ted develops a fierce opposition to modern industrialization and technology. Decades later in the 1990s, the Federal Bureau of Investigation launches a massive manhunt for an elusive serial mail bomber known only as the Unabomber. FBI agent Joanne Miller spearheads the investigation, meticulously analyzing the suspect's language and published manifesto for clues to his identity. The pursuit shifts dramatically when Ted's estranged brother, David, and David's wife, Linda, spot distinct linguistic similarities between the manifesto and old letters written by Ted, prompting them to alert federal authorities.
