Whisper of the Heart plot recap, spoiler-light
Shizuku Tsukishima is a voracious junior high school reader living in Tokyo who dreams of writing. Her routine changes when she notices that library books have previously been checked out by someone named Seiji Amasawa. While following a stray cat on a train, she stumbles upon an antique shop managed by Shirō Nishi, where she meets a captivating cat statuette known as The Baron.
She soon discovers that an abrasive boy who teases her about her original lyrics is actually Seiji, the grandson of the antique shop owner. Seiji is training hard to become a master violin-maker and reveals that he checked out those library books specifically so she would notice him. After they bond over music, Seiji departs for a two-month apprenticeship in Cremona, Italy. Inspired by his dedication to his craft, Shizuku resolves to test her own limits by writing a complete fantasy story starring the Baron before he returns.
