Iron Lung plot recap, spoiler-light
In a bleak future where the Quiet Rapture has erased all stars and habitable worlds, a convict named Simon is sent on a desperate mission. Imprisoned for his role in destroying Filament Station, Simon is promised his freedom if he pilots a cramped, sealed submersible nicknamed the Iron Lung through an alien moon's vast ocean of blood. Guided by limited surface radio communications from a commander named Ava, Simon relies on a crude camera to navigate the pitch-black depths.
As he explores, he discovers evidence of a prior pilot, encounters a massive underwater skeleton, and begins seeing terrifying things as blood slowly leaks into his vessel. Simon captures images of a living sea monster that stalks him through uncharted caves. After experiencing hallucinations and hearing a mysterious woman's voice through the radio, Simon learns that the ocean consists of human blood and that a strange light below is connected to the apocalyptic event that destroyed the universe. Ava pressures him to retrieve data from an older wrecked submarine called the SM-8 in exchange for her personal rescue.
