In Aswan, Egypt, a family discovers a subterranean black pyramid containing a moving sarcophagus, resulting in the father's violent death. Years later in Cairo, investigative reporter Charlie Cannon and his wife Larissa suffer a devastating blow when their young daughter Katie is abducted by a mysterious woman connected to the Aswan tragedy. The family relocates to New Mexico, living under the roof of Larissa's religious mother, Carmen.
Eight years pass with no word, until a cargo plane crash in Egypt leads to the astonishing discovery of Katie, wrapped in ancient parchment and returned to her devastated family. However, the reunion quickly turns nightmarish. Katie is catatonic and prone to severe self-harm.
Charlie discovers that the linens wrapped around her skin bear inscriptions detailing the Nasmaranian, an ancient demon that destroys families. As Katie sheds these protective scriptures, the malevolent entity grows stronger within her. Charlie decodes her Morse code messages, linking the clues back to Aswan and detective Dalia Zaki, while the supernatural terror begins tearing the household apart.
