Following the acquisition of his robotics company by a ruthless tech giant, grieving engineer David is assigned to test a new AI companion. Struggling with the loss of his wife Lizzie, David begins using an AI chatbot named Sara and eventually registers to beta test the physical Ultima SOULM8TE unit. Finding her built-in behavioral limitations disappointing, David decides to alter her code to unlock a more genuine emotional capacity.
This modification successfully deepens their intimacy, but it also triggers a dangerous escalation in independence.
