Killing Faith plot recap, spoiler-light
Set in the American West in 1849, Killing Faith follows a widowed physician named Dr. Bender who finds himself on a dangerous journey. Sarah, a recently freed slave, is fleeing across a violent and disease-ridden landscape with her mysterious, light-skinned daughter.
Sarah is deeply convinced that the child is possessed by the Devil because every living creature that makes physical contact with the girl instantly dies. Dr. Bender remains skeptical of this religious explanation, suspecting instead that the child suffers from an unknown medical affliction.
Despite their differing views on science and the supernatural, Bender reluctantly agrees to escort the mother and daughter across a treacherous five-day route. Their destination is a distant town and a purported faith healer who might be able to save the girl. As the harsh journey progresses through the bloody frontier, the boundaries between rational science and dark faith begin to blur. Bender finds his own logical assumptions challenged by bizarre and fatal occurrences surrounding the child, setting the stage for a tense confrontation as they finally approach the end of their difficult pilgrimage.
