Animal Farm plot recap, spoiler-light
When Farmer Jones fails to pay his mortgage, Manor Farm is repossessed by the bank and set to be sold to Frieda Pilkington, who plans to slaughter the animals. Realizing the deadly truth, a clever sow named Snowball leads a rebellion, drives the humans away, and renames the property Animal Farm. Snowball and Napoleon share initial leadership, but a power struggle soon erupts over building a watermill.
Napoleon forces Snowball out and takes total control. Burdened by a massive bank debt, Napoleon uses a market suggested by Lucky to raise funds. Soon, the pigs move into the farmhouse, forge a corrupt alliance with Pilkington, and twist the farm's original rules to oppress the other animals.
As the pigs adopt human vices, wearing clothes and drinking alcohol, the working animals suffer under a brutal dictatorship. Lucky begins to see the dark reality of Napoleon's rule when another pig named Puff rejects the lifestyle. Prompted by Benjamin the donkey, Lucky decides to fight back against his former mentor.
