Empowered by past conquests, Emperor Shao Kahn orchestrates a deadly tenth Mortal Kombat tournament to subjugate Earthrealm entirely. Lord Raiden and Sonya Blade assemble a formidable team of defenders, tracking down reluctant movie star Johnny Cage to join veterans like Liu Kang, Jax Briggs, and Cole Young. Meanwhile, dark forces resurrect past warriors and scheme behind the scenes.
As the tournament kicks off, Earthrealm's champions face brutal matchups against corrupted foes and loyal Outworld assassins. Early tragedies strike when Raiden is ambushed and drained of his divine energy, which is subsequently bound to Shao Kahn to grant him absolute immortality. As casualties mount and the tournament progresses, the surviving defenders realize standard combat will not suffice against an immortal emperor.
Desperate alliances form, sending heroes on a perilous journey to infiltrate enemy territory, locate the source of the emperor's invulnerability, and turn treacherous foes into reluctant allies. The fate of multiple realms hangs precariously in the balance as the final round of the brutal tournament commences.
