Satluj plot recap, spoiler-light
Set during a grim period of insurgency in Punjab, the historical crime drama Satluj follows Jaswant Singh Khalra, a regular Amritsar bank employee living with his wife and two children. After his friend Kirpal Singh dies and Kirpal's traumatized mother Gurpej goes missing, Jaswant investigates her fate. Aided by childhood friend Constable Satnam, Jaswant discovers Gurpej was murdered by corrupt police personnel.
Furthermore, crematorium records reveal thousands of bodies labeled as unclaimed and secretly cremated rather than returned to their grieving families. Determined to bring accountability, Jaswant gathers documentation and travels internationally, including to Canada, to galvanize global awareness. Facing media scrutiny, police officials cover up these extrajudicial deaths by falsely alleging the victims were weapons traffickers.
Tension escalates when Director General of Police Bitta enlists Senior Superintendent of Police Sugga, who brutally eliminates Satnam and his family. Following a retaliatory suicide blast that claims the Chief Minister and multiple officers, Sugga kidnaps Jaswant straight from his home, prompting a formal inquiry led by Central Bureau of Investigation Additional Director Samudra Singh.
