Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles plot recap, spoiler-light
The story follows an orphan named Rio living in the slums of the Bertram Kingdom, who suddenly awakens to the memories of Haruto Amakawa, a Japanese university student who died in a bus crash before he could reunite with his childhood friend Miharu Ayase. Carrying the dual memories of his past and current lives, Rio seeks vengeance for his mother, who was murdered right in front of him when he was very young. His life takes a drastic turn when he stumbles upon and rescues a kidnapped princess, earning him a royal reward that allows him to enroll in a prestigious academy reserved for the nobility.
Despite facing severe discrimination and shunning from his aristocratic peers due to his impoverished background, Rio finds a loyal companion in a young female teacher named Celia Claire, who invites him into her laboratory on a daily basis. However, political intrigue and false accusations soon shatter his new life, forcing him to become a fugitive and flee the country. Before escaping the kingdom, he promises Celia that he will eventually return after visiting his mother's distant eastern homeland to uncover his roots, come to terms with his blended personality, and master the special power he has awakened alongside Haruto's memories.
