The Sheep Detectives plot recap, spoiler-light
Near the English village of Denbrook, shepherd George Hardy spends his days caring for his flock and reading them detective novels. The sheep live peacefully, believing that death only exists in stories and that they simply turn into clouds when they pass. When George is found dead outside his trailer, the local police officer Tim Derry determines he was poisoned.
Believing a crime has been committed, a trio of clever sheep—the literature-loving ewe Lily, the memory-retaining ram Mopple, and the stoic loner Sebastian—decide to investigate the humans themselves. During the reading of George's will, a gathering of locals and George's newly arrived American daughter Rebecca learn that he was secretly a millionaire. Tensions rise as suspicion falls on Rebecca after physical evidence linking her to the murder is discovered near the crime scene, leading to her arrest. Meanwhile, the animal protagonists uncover a sinister plot involving neighboring shepherd Caleb Merrow and butcher Ham Gilyard, resulting in a dangerous confrontation where Sebastian sacrifices his life to protect his companions.
