Dear You plot recap, spoiler-light
In modern-day China, elderly Iap Sogriu lives with the belief that her husband, Den Bhagseng, abandoned her decades ago after fleeing to Southeast Asia during the Civil War. Rumors eventually surface claiming that Bhagseng survived, amassed a massive fortune as a billionaire, and now funds local schools in Thailand. Facing overwhelming financial debts, her grandson, Hiou-ui, decides to journey to Thailand to seek out this supposedly wealthy relative and secure financial relief.
Upon his arrival, however, Hiou-ui uncovers a startling reality. He learns that Bhagseng actually passed away back in 1960 and never remarried. Furthermore, the remittance letters and financial support that kept arriving in China over the decades were not sent by Bhagseng at all, but rather by a Thai-Chinese woman named Zia Lamgi.
Determined to understand the truth behind the correspondence, Hiou-ui locates Lamgi's son, Zia Zeghua. Together, they begin unearthing a poignant history of secret friendships, hidden identities, and a profound sacrifice that spans multiple generations.
