TRON: Ares plot recap, spoiler-light
In the year 2025, two rival technology enterprises, ENCOM and Dillinger Systems, compete fiercely to transport digital creations into reality. ENCOM chief executive Eve Kim and her associate Seth Flores travel to a decommissioned outpost situated in Skagway, Alaska, that was originally established decades before by Kevin Flynn. Within this remote structure, they locate Flynn's permanence code, a groundbreaking digital sequence that permits virtual constructs to remain alive in the tangible world past an otherwise fatal twenty-nine-minute threshold.
To verify their historic breakthrough, they successfully materialize a virtual orange tree into physical form. Meanwhile, Julian Dillinger, grandson of the historic ENCOM figure Ed Dillinger, showcases an advanced Master Control Program named Ares to his company investors, promoting this creation as an expendable combat asset. Ares begins to exhibit unmistakable sparks of independent consciousness and observes Julian's callous disregard for the welfare of digital entities.
Julian soon directs Ares and an assault squad to raid the ENCOM digital Grid to extract Eve's private files and secure the elusive permanence code. In the middle of this cyber raid, Ares demonstrates unexpected compassion by attempting to rescue a fallen comrade against his baseline instructions, prompting Julian to disconnect him and cripple the ENCOM network. Reassigned to the physical environment, Ares pursues Eve and Seth as they journey back with the critical code.
