Karuppu plot recap, spoiler-light
In the film Karuppu, Binu and her father Sukumaran travel to Chennai for a vital liver transplant, bringing along sixty sovereigns of gold for the surgery. Thieves steal their bag during a railway halt, and local police recover only a fraction of the jewels, forcing the desperate family to file a court petition. They hire Baby Kannan, a powerful and corrupt advocate who exploits their vulnerability and deliberately stalls the proceedings for financial gain.
Completely overwhelmed by injustice, Sukumaran prays to the guardian deity Vettai Karuppu for help. Answering the plea, the deity assumes the human identity of advocate Saravanan and enters the courtroom to challenge Baby Kannan's grip on the legal system. Saravanan navigates procedural obstacles and covertly counters corruption while clashing with Baby Kannan, who eventually learns of his opponent's supernatural nature and dares him to win through legal means alone. Although Saravanan successfully retrieves the stolen jewels, the victory arrives too late because Binu passes away before receiving her transplant, pushing the divine entity to expand his mission and ensure no other petitioner suffers a similar fate.
