On February 24, 2022, as the Russo-Ukrainian war erupts, retired special forces soldier Michael Connor learns that his adopted niece Riley, an aid worker, has been kidnapped by the Skorzeny Group of mercenaries. Operating from Barcelona, Connor uses a contact named Charlie to track Riley's smartwatch signal. He boards a transport plane to Kyiv alongside a British private mercenary team led by former SAS member Bunny, who has a separate mission to rescue a wealthy Ukrainian prisoner.
Though their objectives differ, Connor and Bunny agree to share intelligence. Upon arriving in Kyiv, Connor meets his local guide, Dany, and travels toward Kharkiv amidst active combat zones. Along the journey, Koniev, the leader of the Skorzeny mercenaries, intercepts Connor's communications and targets the rescue effort. After discovering a smartwatch on a fallen enemy, Connor briefly fears Riley might already be dead, but he perseveres alongside Dany to reunite with Bunny and plan an assault on the heavily guarded police station where the hostages are kept.
