Nimrods plot recap, spoiler-light
In the comedy Nimrods, best friends Tommy and Fred are devoted Green Day fans who dream of musical greatness with their high school group, the Analog Dogs. Joined by their hesitant drummer Chad, the Kansas City teens miss an earlier chance to see their idols locally. Around Christmas, Tommy receives an old four-track recorder and his father's jacket from his mother, fueling his passion.
Soon after, Wayne's friend Keith tricks the boys into believing the Analog Dogs were chosen to open for Green Day at a New Year's Eve gig in Los Angeles. Unaware it is a prank, Tommy and Fred take Wayne's car without permission or a license and set off. Chad initially refuses to join after suspecting a trick, but chaotic mishaps follow: Tommy misplaces his phone, diesel fuel leaves them stranded, and the boys secure an ice cream truck to continue westward. Along the route, they meet Olivia, perform at a spot called the Hole, face internal band friction, escape a dangerous motel manager at the Lincoln Inn, and eventually reunite when Chad drives his mother's van to California.
