Power Ballad plot recap, spoiler-light
Rick Power works as an American lead singer for a Dublin wedding band called The Bride and Groove, having previously abandoned his own musical ambitions after marrying his Irish partner Rachel and having a daughter named Aja. During a castle wedding performance, Rick and his band encounter Danny Wilson, a fading boy-band star trying to establish a solo career. Following the gig, Rick and Danny share a late-night jam session where Rick plays an original composition titled How to Write a Song Without You.
Back in Los Angeles, Danny struggles with his solo material until he recalls Rick's tune. Encouraged by his partner Marcia, Danny records and releases the track, turning it into a major hit that revitalizes his career. When Rick hears the song while shopping, he attempts to claim ownership, only to be dismissed by Danny's record label and threatened with legal action. The ensuing stress causes turmoil in Rick's personal life as he loses his wedding band job and causes a van accident with his family, prompting Rachel to throw him out of their home.
