Remarkably Bright Creatures plot recap, spoiler-light
Tova Sullivan works as a night janitor at the Sowell Bay aquarium, living a withdrawn life after losing her husband and her son Erik years prior. While working, she forms an unusual bond with an observant octopus named Marcellus who longs to escape. When Tova injures her ankle trying to return Marcellus from an escape attempt, an aspiring musician named Cameron Cassmore takes over her job while trying to fix his late mother Daphne's van.
Cameron discovers a mysterious ring with the letters EELS and a photo of Simon Brinks, whom he initially believes is his father. After Simon reveals he is gay and only platonic friends with Daphne, a frustrated Cameron throws the ring into the eel tank. Marcellus witnesses this and later retrieves the ring. Meanwhile, Tova decides to sell her home and move into a senior community that she and her late husband had planned to join.
