Main Vaapas Aaunga plot recap, spoiler-light
The romance and drama film Main Vaapas Aaunga centers on ninety-five-year-old Ishar Singh Grewal, also known as Keenu, who lies on his deathbed following a stroke. Plagued by dementia and lingering memories, Keenu desperately repeats his wish to return to Sargodha in Pakistan. His grandson Nirvair arrives from London to care for him and attempts to decode his fragmented memories of the 1947 Partition of British India.
Decades earlier, a young Keenu fell in love with a Muslim woman named Afsana, known as Jiya. Their budding romance was shattered when the violent Partition forced families to flee. Keenu and the men of his family escaped, leaving Jiya and their female relatives behind after Keenu promised he would never leave without her permission.
Six years later, Keenu returned only to discover that Jiya had been forced to marry Adil and that his best friend Aftab had been murdered protecting the family. The trauma hardened Keenu into a bitter, isolated man. Driven by love and duty, Nirvair uses his British passport to investigate the past with the help of archives, historians, and his reluctant great-uncle Pali.
