A Mosquito in the Ear plot recap, spoiler-light
Facing fertility struggles, American couple Andrew and Daniela choose to pursue international adoption. They are successfully matched with a four-year-old girl named Sarvari and embark on a journey to an orphanage in Goa, India. Their primary goal is to complete the adoption process and bring the child back to the United States to start their new life together.
Anticipating a joyous and straightforward transition, the couple quickly finds themselves completely unprepared for the reality of the situation. Sarvari adamantly refuses to leave the only home, community, and language she has ever known. Terrified of these unfamiliar adults who speak a foreign language, the little girl resists all their efforts to welcome her.
This unexpected resistance shatters their initial expectations, introducing a chaotic challenge that severely tests their patience. The intense friction begins to profoundly reshape their preconceived ideas about family, parenting roles, and the stability of their relationship as a couple as they navigate the unfamiliar cultural landscape.
