Charlotte plot recap, spoiler-light
Charlotte unfolds in an alternate world where a passing comet leaves behind dust that grants superhuman abilities to children upon reaching puberty. The narrative centers on Yuu Otosaka, a teenager who can briefly possess others and initially uses his power for selfish gains. His life shifts dramatically when Nao Tomori, a fellow ability user with targeted invisibility, exposes him and forces him to transfer to Hoshinoumi Academy.
There, Yuu joins the student council alongside Nao and Jōjirō Takajō, whose power involves uncontrollable high-speed movement. Their primary mission is tracking down and protecting other vulnerable ability users from predatory organizations. The group later expands to include Yusa Nishimori, a pop singer who channels spirits, including her pyrokinetic deceased sister Misa.
The stakes escalate intensely when Yuu's younger sister Ayumi tragically perishes after unexpectedly manifesting a destructive collapse ability. Devastated, Yuu spirals into profound isolation until Nao helps him recover. Through subsequent events involving a post-rock band called Zhiend and recovered memories, Yuu discovers his true power enables him to steal another person's ability by possessing them. He also learns about his older brother Shunsuke, who previously utilized time travel to build a safe haven before losing his sight.
