Twenty-year-old Shyamili Das, known as Shy, lives in Mumbai where her parents run a struggling saree shop. Embarrassed by her middle-class background, she fabricates a story for her college peers claiming her parents own a boutique in London. She anchors her social standing and future ambitions to her boyfriend of three years, Mayank Jhunjhunwalla, a wealthy heir she expects to marry.
Only her neighbour and childhood friend Dhruv Kumar knows the truth about her financial situation. Everything shatters on Mayank's twenty-first birthday when he announces he refuses to enter his family business to pursue singing instead. When Shy reacts poorly to this disruption of her meticulously planned future, Mayank breaks up with her.
Seeking vengeance, Shy targets Mayank's new girlfriend, a college acquaintance named Tara Verma. However, as the two spend time together, their rivalry unexpectedly shifts into a genuine friendship.
