Modha Rathri plot recap, spoiler-light
The romantic comedy Modha Rathri follows a chaotic wedding arranged in the town of Thekoor between Maruthanyagam, known as Maruthu, and Muthuselvi, called Muthu. Maruthu is a reluctant groom who spent five years abroad in Dubai after his ex-girlfriend tragically died due to family opposition. His brother-in-law, Kannan, eventually convinces him to go through with the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Muthu is equally desperate to avoid the marriage because her mother rejects her relationship with her current boyfriend. Despite multiple frantic attempts by Muthu to flee and her boyfriend's rescue efforts, the wedding proceeds anyway. On the chaotic wedding night, Muthu tries to escape again, and Maruthu catches her in the act.
Instead of turning her in, they form a temporary alliance to meet up with her boyfriend so she can elope. However, this plan immediately derails when the boyfriend gets cold feet, abandons them with cryptic advice to stay together, and distracts them to make a quick escape. This leaves Maruthu and Muthu completely stranded and confused, setting the stage for the final act where their hidden pasts collide with demanding family members.
