On New Year's Eve in 1999, mid-thirties hospital anaesthesiologist Minnie Vernon encounters her former fiancé, Cameron, who is celebrating the birth of his child and notes that Minnie ruined their relationship by sleeping with her old boyfriend, Joe. Seeking distraction, Minnie joins her friends Flick and Max at a party hosted by Rodney and his Y2K-obsessed wife, Pia. Minnie hopes to see Joe, but her hopes are dashed when Joe arrives with his free-spirited American girlfriend, Jenny.
