The Girl Who Leapt Through Time plot recap, spoiler-light
Seventeen-year-old student Makoto Konno discovers she can travel backward in time after tumbling onto a walnut-shaped device at school. Her aunt Kazuko helps her understand this new ability, which Makoto initially exploits for trivial everyday conveniences like avoiding tardiness, acing tests, and extending a karaoke session. However, she soon learns that fixing her own minor inconveniences negatively impacts the lives of others.
Frightened by a numbered tattoo on her arm that reveals her remaining uses, she starts burning through her power to undo awkward situations, including dodging a romantic confession from her close friend Chiaki Mamiya. When she uses her very last leap to dodge a phone call from Chiaki, she accidentally leaves her faulty bicycle with Kōsuke Tsuda and Kaho Fujitani, leading to a terrifying realization that she cannot save them from an oncoming train without any leaps left.
